NEW Cooperative Donates to the Oto Fire Department
To help support replacement of wildland fire skid.
Oto, IA – The NEW Cooperative Foundation is pleased to present a $5,000 donation to the Oto Fire Department. The Oto Fire Department is a rural department with 14 members in Woodbury County, serving five townships (60 square miles). During the month of February with frigid temperatures the Oto Fire Department experienced an unexpected power outage. This resulted in damage to the building and fire apparatuses with the most damage to the wildland fire truck. With donations, the Oto Fire Department will be able to make repairs and replace what is needed to bring their department fully back to service for the community of Oto.
The damage to the department’s tucks was extensive, with nearly everything that could break, broke.
“Our pumper was actually frozen to the ground, we couldn’t move it because when it broke, the water physically froze it to the inside of the building” said Jason Weber, Chief of the Oto Volunteer Fire Department.
Recently, Gary Moritz, NEW Cooperative Communications Director representing the NEW Cooperative Foundation presented a check to Jason Weber, Fire Chief of the Oto Fire Department, along with Katie Roberts representing the Siouxland Foundation.
