The LuVerne Fire Department received a $5,000 boost in their fundraising efforts to build a new fire station.
Gary Moritz, Director of Communications at NEW Cooperative, presented the $5,000 check to the fire department on Thursday, August 9th.
The current fire station that houses their fire trucks and gear is in a dilapidated state. Matt Lawson, secretary-treasurer of the LuVerne Fire Department, said they are raising funds to build a new structure with basic amenities.
“The new fire station will provide a safe and reliable structure to store our emergency response vehicles and equipment. It will also provide an environment that is more user friendly to perform vehicle maintenance and fire training classes,” Lawson said.
A 52’ by 75’ structure is planned to be built about a block north of the current fire station. Estimated cost is approximately $150,000.
Fundraising efforts are ongoing with the fire department holding three fundraisers this year. The next fundraiser is the Firemen’s Annual Fall Supper, which will be held on Sunday, Sept. 30, from 5-7 p.m. at the LuVerne Community Center.
Donations are being sought from local businesses and individuals. Individuals are welcome to stop in to Security State Bank in LuVerne to make a tax deductible donation.
The LuVerne Fire Department serves the city of LuVerne along with five surrounding rural townships. They also provide mutual aid to other fire departments in surrounding communities.
“We are pleased to support our local fire departments in our trade territory. The new fire station will be a great asset for the town of LuVerne and will assist in providing the best possible fire protection to the businesses and residents in the LuVerne area,” Moritz said.
The NEW Cooperative Foundation presented a check for $2,500, plus a matching funds check from Land O’Lakes Foundation in the amount of $2,500 for a total of $5,000.
NEW Cooperative, Inc., partners with the Land O’Lakes Foundation, who matches the NEW donation. The Land O’Lakes Foundation Member Co-op Match Program matches dollar for dollar the cash donation of member cooperatives, thus doubling the funds available for hometown projects. Matching funds for projects selected, the NEW Cooperative Foundation and the Land O’Lakes Foundation will help enhance the quality of life in local communities.
