Field Day at Smeltzer Learning Farm

 

“Iowa Farmers:  Stewards of Our Water”

 

This year’s theme for the field day at the Ann Smeltzer Trust Conservation Farm is Feeding the World---Improving the Environment.

           

The Ann Smeltzer Charitable Trust and the Iowa Learning Farm will be sponsoring a Field Day on Tuesday, July 27 starting at 4:00 pm, including a meal.  The location for this event will be at the Smeltzer Farm located 1 mile south of Otho on Nelson Ave.

 

Guest speakers will be Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, Bill Northey; IDALS Director of Soil Conservation, Chuck Gipp; and NRCS State Conservationist, Rich Sims.  Other topics for the day will include strip tillage demonstrations, the new ILF conservation station, cover crops, wildlife habitat, and drainage demonstration for water quality.  A special feature will include an aerial seeding demonstration of rye grass as a cover crop.
