The NEW Cooperative, Inc. Board of Directors recently voted to award seven local students with $2,000 scholarships for the 2010-2011 school year. Each student will be receiving the award to help fund their college education and advancement towards receiving an agricultural degree. Since 1993, NEW Cooperative has honored five local students each year with this award. Due to the outstanding number of applications this year from exceptionally qualified area students, the Board of Directors made a decision to award the scholarship to seven students.
The seven award recipients and their respective schools are Jacob Ahrens, Webster City; Ben Butcher, Manson-Northwest Webster; Breanne Kastler, Iowa State University; Jessica Marty, Corwith-Wesley-LuVerne; Derek McCart, Eagle Grove; Brent Sexton, Rockwell City-Lytton; Breanne Wagner, Webster City.
All applicants were judged on leadership, scholastics, and interest in pursuing a career in agriculture. Award recipients must be dependents of a NEW Cooperative member or full-time employee, as well as be enrolled as a full-time student at an Iowa college in an agriculture program.
NEW Cooperative has offered this scholarship program for 17 years, and will continue to, as a way of supporting area youth and the future of agriculture.
