Donation from NEW Cooperative Foundation Helps Badger Fire Department

July 6, 2012- A donation from the NEW Cooperative Foundation was recently awarded to the Badger Fire Department. With assistance from the O’Lakes Foundation, the gift of $10,000 will be used to purchase a new pumper truck. This new pumper truck will replace a 22 year old truck, currently used by the Fire Department, which does not meet necessary standards for fire equipment. The Badger Fire Department is made up of 18 members, four of which are EMT’s. Their fire and rescue services cover Badger and parts of Cooper and Deer Creek Township and the new pumper truck was necessary to respond to structure fires. Glen Westling, Badger Fire Chief, explained that the new truck will cost about $280,000, and the department will continue to raise money from other sources such as their annual barbecue dinner and street dance.

Glen Westling talked about the importance of this donation from NEW by saying, “It is great to see a local employer support a local fire and rescue department.” Another Badger Fire Department member and NEW Cooperative employee, Chad Opheim, talked about the support from NEW by saying, “NEW Cooperative already helps the Badger Fire Department and area fire departments, it is great to see them do even more when it is really needed. It is not every job that you can leave and go on a fire or rescue call. NEW Cooperative continues to support their employees who are also members of local fire departments.”
